Miss Dotty’s Specs

Miss Dotty’s Specs

Miss DottyMiss Dotty is the secretary of the ancient establishment of Blotting’s Academy and she’s lost her spectacles… again.

Join her as she tells of how she first found her unique eyepiece – a story of bandits, pirates and shipwrecks. Take the journey across the sea to discover that real treasure isn’t perhaps as far away as you might think.

Miss Dotty’s Specs is set in the same world as the new book, Rise of the Shadow Stealers, by Daniel Ingram-Brown. Daniel is also available for book signings and author workshops. Please contact us for more details.

This one-woman, hour-long play, is designed to be performed in the classroom or in a café style setting, transforming an everyday venue into a magical land.  Miss Dotty’s Specs draws on a selection of popular parables, bringing them to life in a light-hearted and fresh way.

The option of a performance with BSL is available on request.

“Loved it!  Felt very moved myself.  Loved the adventure, the journey.  Loved the danger, the discovery.  LOVED the moment Miss Dotty put on her spectacles.  Magical.”

Owen McCarthy, leader and director at Kids Klub, Leeds

Do you provide a creative curriculum with cross-curricular activities?

Suitcase and Spectacles create educational theatre to enrich R.E, PSHCE and Literacy topics, for Years 5, 6 and 7 pupils.  Our interactive, sensory performances and follow-up workshops aid reflection around questions such as, ‘Who do I value?’ and ‘What makes me, ME?’

There are three workshops available to accompany the classroom play, Miss Dotty’s Specs, all of which use drama:

  1. PSHCE – What makes me, ME?
  2. R.E. – Parables: how we learn through stories.
  3. Literacy – Making our own story.

All workshops tie in with the SEAL unit, ‘Good to be Me’, and link with the OFSTED criteria of spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development.

Full day   £320 + expenses (2 x play and workshop)  Ideal for ‘drop-down’ days for PSHCE and R.E.
